Ampersands

Ampersands

What is an ampersand and how do you use it for web writing?
The ampersand is a symbol (&) that resembles the Latin word “et” which means “and.” The ampersand symbol means “and.” However, you cannot use "and" and the ampersand interchangeably when writing. When writing content for the web, do not use the ampersand for general writing. There are four times when you may use the ampersand in your writing:

·       When using company names with an established ampersand (Johnson & Johnson)
·       When very limited space is available (tables)
·       Artistic purposes (logos)
·       Some academic references (Peter Selby & Steve Slavin)
