Narrative Writing Or Descriptive Writing?

Who understands a problem or information given to them better if was told as a story? I know that I do. If I am capable of being able to visualize the information explained, then I am more capable of understanding.  Narrative writing could come in hand with this situation, but so can description writing.

Descriptive Writing - literary device in which the author uses details to paint a picture with their words; http://study.com

So how can you decision which writing style to use? I believe that we should use both, but we should use descriptive writing first and if there is still others that don't understand then use a narrative writing to explain better.
